7 Questions to Ask Your Medical Tourism Company About Dental Procedures

Like thousands of Americans each year, you may have decided – or are seriously considering – heading abroad to have your dental needs solved safely, successfully and VERY cost-effectively. Indeed, it’s not uncommon for medical tourists to save tens of thousands of dollars on dental implants, root canals, smile makeovers, and the list goes on.
To help you maximize your experience and reap the rewards of having your treatment performed abroad, below we list 7 questions you should ask your medical tourism company about dental procedures:
1. What are the leading destinations around the world that provide the dental procedures I want?
You may be pleasantly surprised to learn that the dental procedures you want can be provided in many different countries – including some in which you may have family members or friends, or those that you’ve wanted to visit as a tourist for some time (e.g. Thailand, India, Malaysia, etc.).
2. What facilities in my preferred destination(s) specialize in the dental procedures that I want?
Your medical tourism provider should provide you with access to a pre-screened database of facilities (e.g. dental practices, clinics, hospitals where dental treatments are performed, etc.), so that you can research and compare potential providers. This includes information on experience, certification, licensing, and so on.
3. How do I contact potential dentists to discuss my specific needs and learn more about their history and approach?
Your medical tourism provider should make it easy for you to contact dentists at your preferred facility/facilities via a HIPAA-certified web dashboard, so that you can send/receive emails, engage in video conferences, submit X-rays and charts, and so on. Naturally, you can also contact potential dentists if you wish by calling them directly.
4. How many other patients have you sent to my preferred facility/facilities?
You want to verify that your medical tourism company has a successful track record of sending other patients to the facility or facilities that are of interest to you.
5. Can you provide me with cost estimates so I can compare my shortlist of facilities?
Once you’ve created a shortlist of potential facilities (which may be in the same country or different countries), it’s important to get cost estimates that cover all of the fees you’ll incur – including travel and accommodation fees. Your medical tourism company will help you with this (since the dental facility quote will cover the treatment and not the travel).
6. What aspects of planning my medical tourism trip will you handle?
The only answer you should accept to this pivotal question is “all of them”. That is, your medical tourism company should have the capacity, resources and knowledge to plan all of the logistical aspects of your journey, including airport transportation, flight, hotel, and even paying the bill on your behalf so you don’t have to worry about currency exchange.
7. What kind of support will you offer while I’m abroad?
Your medical tourism company should provide you with 24/7 concierge care from the moment you leave until after you return. They should be 100 percent committed to doing everything possible to make your experience safe, successful and fully rewarding.
At SkyMedicus, we’re honored to help people across the country head abroad so they can get the dental treatment they want and need.
