The Wellex Spinal Procedure vs. Spinal Fusion Therapy

In Tijuana, Mexico, orthopedic surgeons have developed a new spinal procedure that is safer and more effective than traditional options. The Wellex spinal procedure allows a small implant to be inserted between two vertebrae and can be expanded to reduce pressure on nerves in the spinal cord. The implant is able to move with the back and preserve the natural mobility of the spine. If the implant needs to be removed for any reason, doing so is simple and will not cause any damage.

This procedure comes as an alternative to spinal fusion. This is a major surgery that stops movement between two vertebrae to reduce back pain and discomfort. In addition, there are several things you have to take into account with spinal fusion. The surgery takes at least two hours to perform. Patients have to stay in the hospital for up to five days and then from eight months to two years to be fully recovered, depending on the severity of the spinal fusion. The patient must avoid lifting more than 10lbs, bending, or twisting to avoid stressing their spine. Surgery can lead to future pain because the lack of mobility can cause muscles and bones to ache because they are no longer being used. Additional strain can also happen due to muscles and bone being used now that previously had not been used as much.

The Wellex spinal procedure takes approximately half as much time as a spinal fusion surgery and is done as an outpatient procedure. It takes about a week to return to work and up to four months to be completely recovered. The procedure can be done in conjunction with, or after, spinal fusion to enhance results or further reduce pain. In many cases, the Wellex spinal procedure costs less than the copay for spinal fusion.

If you are experiencing back discomfort and want to avoid spinal fusion surgery, the Wellex spinal procedure is an alternative choice that you can consider.
