Endodontics

Category(s): Dental

Endodontics is the focus of the interior nerve and tissues of the teeth. The most common specialty procedure of this area is known as a root canal. This procedure requires the complete removal of everything that lies in the root of the tooth, leaving a hollow chamber that is then cleaned, shaped and decontaminated in preparation for eventual placement of a post which can have a crown attached. The alternative to this therapy is complete removal of the tooth, but this can lead to loss of bone or the surrounding teeth to become crooked and hindering a person's bite, so it is not advisable unless absolutely necessary.
